In the last 20 years, the cement sector has modernized its fleet, reducing its energy use by 20% and GHG Intensity by 15%.
Portland-limestone cement, also known as Contempra, reduces CO2 emissions by 10% compared to traditional cement while producing concrete of equivalent strength and durability. If adopted across Canada, Portland-limestone cement would avoid almost 1 MT of GHG emissions per year.
We are substituting traditional fossil fuels with lower carbon alternatives. Achieving current global best-in-class fuel substitution could yield GHG reductions in the order of 2-3MT per year - another 20%–30% – in Canada.
We're deeply invested in longer term carbon capture and utilization technologies – such as CarbonCure, Solidia and Pond Biofuels – that could help transform concrete from a carbon emitter to a carbon sink.
